St. John Paul II Parish has been supporting a boys orphanage named "Fraternite des Juenes" in Les Cayes, Haiti. We have been providing financial support for over 25 years and visiting for almost 20.
The home provides shelter, meals and job training for its residents. We have many success stories where our kids have moved onto jobs as Police Officers, electronic repair people, in the cell phone industry, entrepreneurs, and sales.
In addition to job skills training, the home also provides family skills training and responsibilities. Many of our past residents have started their own families and are now making a difference in their communities. When we visit we are blessed with visits from some of our "graduates" who make it a point to pass along the success stories and proudly show off their own children.
The home itself has been transformed from an institutional facility into a true home thanks to the efforts of Fr. Alfred Charpentier OMI and his team. Over time we have seen the concrete walls painted in bright colors and the home modernized with new cooking and bathing facilities.
A large mural funded through a group called "Hope for Haiti" was recently completed by the world-renowned artist Adrian Torres from Spain.
We are the only source of funding for Fraternite des Juenes. St. John Paul II Parish has committed to providing $1000 per month for operational costs. Schooling costs another $6,000 per year, Without this funding Fr. Fred has no other option than to close the home.
We used to fund through our parish tithing activities. This is no longer the case and we are now relying on personal donations. Please remember we can never outdo God's generosity but we are asking that as a parish we can prayerfully consider donating to this vital ministry in a country whose citizens desperately needs us.
