The 1-20 club was started by the late Robert Lusignan and the late Claudio Proulx who were members of the former Notre Dame Parish in 1960. It was started to support the athletic programs at the former Notre Dame High School as well as to help defray the costs of opening the LaSalle building.
In 1965, when Notre Dame and St. Mary High Schools merged to form Marianhill Central Catholic High School, the club used the funds raised to help defray the costs of repairs to the church and utility bills.
In 2011, a new administrative group was formed to continue the club after the four parishes in Southbridge merged into one and the money in the treasury was given to Father Peter, the pastor, and was used to replace the sanctuary rugs and add railings in front of the sanctuary in Notre Dame.
Today we continue to help with the costs of building repairs and our ever-rising utility bills.
We currently have five clubs in operations which means we give an average of $3,000 to $4,000 a week to the parish every twenty weeks depending on how many tickets are sold. The more the clubs are filled, the more we can give.
