Architecture has always been an expression of life, the medium by which people have recorded their emotions, aspirations and their beliefs. Like the centuries old monuments of the pyramids to the great cathedrals of Europe from the medieval era, Notre Dame Church stands as a monument to the faith and accomplishments of the Catholic people of Southbridge.
It was Christmas Day of the year 1870 when French-Canadian parishioners celebrated their first Mass in the original Notre Dame Church, but as their numbers grew, they began to dream of a "new" and even more "special" Notre Dame.
This "special" church is known for combining both the Romanesque and Baroque styles of architecture; adorned with paintings by the Roman artist, Gunippo Raggi, and a custom Casavant Organ built in 1916. Notre Dame's beauty and history makes it one of the most desired settings for couples seeking to marry in the Catholic Church.
Roman Catholics who are not currently members of the parish need to secure permission from their pastor where they currently reside as well as the permission of the pastor of Saint John Paul II Parish if they wish to solemnize their marriage in one of our parish churches.
If you are interested and planning to celebrate the Sacrament of Marriage at Notre Dame, please contact Father Carlos or the Parish Office at at 508-765-3701.
